FAQ

Our Chef is happy to customize a menu to suit various tastes and budgets.

Yes! If you have a few guests that require kosher meals, we are happy to make arrangements for you. Ask your Conference and Event Cordinator for pricing. We do allow for your guests to also bring their own kosher meal(s) from outside sources or the option that you may arrange for a kosher delivery at your convenience for your guest. All of our chicken in our Conference catering packages is sourced from the Butcher Shoppe and is certified halal. Check out our various menu options here.

Our Chef is happy to adapt your menu or create a special Chef’s Choice plate to accommodate those individuals with dietary restrictions. The Toronto Metropolitan University Student Centre & Oakham House is not able to provide in-house kosher catering, but can work with local providers to accommodate these requests.

Event details are due the Tuesday of week prior to your event for the minimum guaranteed guest count and then exceptions made on case by case basis for making adjustments or increases only with your Conference and Event Coordinator.

Oakham House is a historic building with limited power outlets. A general outline of your power requirements should be submitted at the time of booking.  Events in rooms like (Tecumseh Auditorium, The Margaret Laurence Room) held in the Toronto Metropolitan University Student Centre part of the facility have generally more power outlets.

The Toronto Metropolitan University Student Centre/Oakham House offers access to the wireless network free of charge. Please ask your Conference and Event Coordinator for details if your presenter requires access to a non-wireless network, (Wired Internet) as the port will need to be unlocked ahead of time by TMU Communication Services and is subject to additional fee.

Our audio-visual equipment is very straight forward and typical of most event venues and all our Event Managers and Event Staff are trained in how to assist with setting you up for your presentations and panel discussions.  If you would like a dedicated staff member to be present in your room for the entirety of your event, then please request this with your Conference and Events Coordinator. If possible, we do recommend sending a scheduled agenda of your event, so that our Event Staff can provide even more outstanding service, during panel speaker changes and any other audio-visual needs for guests.

The Toronto Metropolitan University Student Centre/Oakham House provides tables, chairs, white linen with a black overlay, tableware and tea-light candles for most catered events. Some items may come at an additional cost—please ask your Conference and Event Coordinator for more details. As Oakham House is a heritage building, your event coordinator must approve any additional decor elements you wish to provide.

Catering is typically served in the same room, but separate spaces are available for rental.  Events with catering being held in Tecumseh Auditorium are held in the Courtyard Lounge directly outside the room if the guest count is greater than 100.

Our Event Manager and Event Staff arrive at 7am to unlock the facility to prepare for the day's events and they are ready to be on the floor to assist clients by 7:30am.

Unfortunately, the Toronto Metropolitan University Student Centre is an extremely busy facility that hosts events in the same rooms both in the daytime and evening. Unless prior arrangements are made (subject to an entrance fee) and the room is available the night before and book a specific time for you or a third party to come in, the room is not normally available the night before

All of our meeting and event spaces are fully accessible and we also have a universal bathroom on the main level that has a patient lift. If you require special accommodations, please notify us when booking.
